Dee's Whole Wheat Pie Crust

This is THE recipe that Dee uses to make a whole wheat pie crust.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tsp organic whole cane sugar unrefined and unbleached
  • 7 tablespoons cold butter or cold coconut oil cut into small cubes
  • 2 tbsp ice cold water

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, and salt and then using a pastry cutter, cut in the butter or coconut oil. Once combined, slowly mix in water and stir until the dough begins to form into small pieces (about the size of pearls). Form the dough into a ball and on a floured surface, roll the dough out into a 10-inch circle. Place the dough into a pie tin and trim the edges. You can get fancy and crimp the edges or just clean it up so it is even around. Using a fork, pierce a few tiny holes around the bottom and sides of the crust. Place in refrigerator until ready to fill with pumpkin pie filling.
